What is Wheelchair Dance Sport?
The Wheelchair Dance Sport Association (UK) was established in 2006.
It was started to enable all disabilities and abilities to be involved, and to create a structure which promotes ALL forms of dancing such as Standard dances such as the Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep and Latin dances such as the Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive, and Group dances, all with moves suitable for wheelchair users.
Body moves have been adapted to enable wheelchair users to be able to perform either together or with able bodied partners up to and including competative level if desired. But our main aim is FUN, you do not have to take it to competative level, you can dance solely for the ENJOYMENT.
There is also a structured approach to training, with regular training courses for those interested in becoming Instuctors of Wheelchair Dance, and training for those interested in competing.
The coaching methods have also been adapted to offer other styles of dancing such as Line Dance, Bollywood, Solo and Group dancing.
We offer demonstrations or workshops to any interested parties and regularly travel all over the country.
